I bet you that you probably have a savings account at your local bank. I’m also willing to bet that the interest rate you’re getting on that savings account isn’t over 2%. In fact, I’m pretty confident it’s somewhere around 1%, right? What if I told you that you could get 4.3% APY if you signed up for an ING Direct account and that you can link the two accounts together such that you can transfer money between the two very easily. I bet you’d be interested right? But like the infomercials on late night television, there is more, much much more.
If you get referred (ask a friend or visit this ING Direct Referral page), then you can get $25 absolutely free for making a deposit (I get $10 for the trouble). But wait, there’s more. If you start employing CD laddering, ING is offering minimum of 6-month CDs at 5.0% interest rates; a 0.7% premium over their savings account interest rates. You might say that it isn’t a lot but you can open a CD with practically nothing, which means you can spread out your contributions such that the laddering frees up your funds on a rolling basis.
Even after all that, ING has some pretty solid features that help with responsible banking. So, if you’re stuck with your 1.0%, consider ING Direct even if it’s only for the $25 bonus.
